His Early Life
Kevin Hart was born in July 1976 and raised in a single parent household in Philadelphia. His mother, Nancy Hart, was a systems analyst at the University of Pennsylvania.
His father, Henry Witherspoon, a cocaine addict was in and out of jail throughout Hart’s childhood. Kevin Hart would use comedy as a coping mechanism.
He has one older brother, Robert.
Kevin Hart briefly joined Community College of Philadelphia after graduating from George Washington High School. He then found work as a shoe salesman in Brockton Massachusetts.
Hart would then try as hand in stand-up comedy in Philadelphia clubs as an amateur.
His trouble with the law has been through drunk driving. In April 2013, Kevin Hart was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence when his black Mercedes nearly collided with a tanker. He was booked for a misdemeanour after a failed field test, and for which he served 3-year probation.
Hart has cited his inspiration to be Chris Rock, Bill Cosby, Jerry Seinfeld, George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Dave Chappelle and Kevin Robinson.
His Break in Acting and Comedy
His first gig in Philadelphia did not go so well, and he would often be booed off stage with pieces of chicken thrown at him. Kevin Hart had a slow start in stand-up comedy.
He did not give up, and Hart decided to enter comedy competitions throughout Massachusetts. Over time, he would start winning these competitions, and the reception among the audiences would improve significantly.
Initially, Kevin Hart would try to imitate other comedians such as Chris Tucker. It took time for him to find his style that focused on insecurities and life experiences.
Hart began his comedy tour in 2009. His tour titled, Laugh at My Pain, grossed over $15 million, making it one of the top-selling comedy tours in 2013.
He has a game called little Jumpman in iTunes, linked to his social media accounts. Most of his fans are from YouTube.
Film and Television
Kevin Hart broke into the world of Film and Television with guest appearances in Undeclared. His film debut was in Paper Soldiers, and Scary Movie 3 would shoot him into fame. Other favorite films that he featured include Soul Plane, Little Focker, Death at a Funeral and 40-year-old virgin.
Some of the movies that he appeared include This Is the End, Five-Year Engagement and Think Like a Man. He was also in Exit Strategy, 35 and Counting and Grudge Match.
Other popular films that he has starred include The Wedding Ringer and Get hard. In 2016, he starred in two movies: The Secret Life of Pets and Central Intelligence with Dwayne Johnson. He starred in a voice role in Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie.
Kevin Hart starred again with Dwayne Johnson in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.
Night School was his first film production through his company Hartbeat Productions in 2018. He signed a deal with Nickelodeon through his company Hartbeat Productions to produce kids’ live content. He also has an agreement with Universal Studios on a first-look production basis.
In 2019, Hart will appear in Jumanji 3, and the Secret Life of Pets 2.
Family and Relationships
Kevin Hart reconciled with his father after recovery from addiction. He portrays his mother as intimidating but loving. She died from cancer in 2007.
Kevin and Torrei Hart finalized their divorce in November 2011, citing irreconcilable differences. He requested joint custody of their daughter and son.
He married Eniko Parrish in 2016 and had their first son in 2017. On December 2017, Kevin Hart admitted to having cheated on Parrish while pregnant with their son.
