Brown’s second studio album, Exclusive, was also a significant success. It debuted at number four on US billboard 200 and had a considerable amount of positive reviews. The second single in the album, Kiss Kiss, was number one on Billboard 100, becoming the second single from Chris Brown to reach number one.
Chris Brown has mentioned several influences in his music career, and they include Michael Jackson, Usher, Marvin Gaye and R Kelly. He is quite particular about Usher’s influence on his style and often remarks that there would be no Chris Brown if there was no Usher Raymond.
In 2009, Chris Brown was involved in an argument with his then-girlfriend Rihanna, which resulted in him physically assaulting her. Rihanna would need medical attention. After the revelations, several radio stations withdrew his music and was removed from commercial ads that he featured. Chris Brown also withdrew from all public appearances, but would later hire a crisis management team.
He was sentenced to six months of community service, five years’ probation, and one year of domestic violence counseling.
In 2011, Chris Brown started dating Karrueche Tran but would end the relationship one year later, saying that he didn’t want to hurt her over his relationship with Rihanna.
Rihanna publicly announced that they were back together with Chris Brown. This was in 2013. However, two months after the announcement, Chris Brown stated in an interview, that they had broken up again. He would subsequently reunite with Tran, and then break up again.
